Alberta Paramedical Services has certified staff to administer substance abuse testing. Everything from stimulants such as cocaine or amphetamines to depressants like alcohol and marijuana are becoming an increasingly common issue in many workplaces and substance abuse testing is recommended for certain vehicular and major incidents. Alberta Paramedical Services can administer an audiometry test which is pictorial representation, or audiogram, of hearing loss at various frequencies. The audiometry test determines a subject's hearing levels but may also measure the ability to discriminate between different sound intensities, recognize pitch, or distinguished speech from background noise. Acoustic reflex and otoacoustic emissions may also be measured. Results of audiometric tests are used to diagnose hearing loss or diseases of the ear. Our audiometry technicians can administer the test either at your work site, or in our testing facility. These services are provided through our partner, Second Impressions Occupational Medical Services.
Alberta Paramedical Services can administer a spirometry test. This is the most common of the Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) and is used to measure lung function; specifically the measurement of the amount (volume) and/or speed (flow) of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. Spirometry is an important tool used for generating pneumotachographs, which are helpful in assessing conditions such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and COPD. It also can be done to assess the effect of medication and measure progress in disease treatment. Our spirometry technicians can administer the test either at your work site or in our testing facility. These services are provided through our partner, Second Impressions Occupational Medical Services.
